Hunger and cravings are an important part of our human biology. We will all experience different levels but there are tools for helping to manage hunger and cravings when you are trying to lose weight.

As you already know, hunger levels will vary from person to person. The goal of the medication is to reduce your appetite to a more manageable level — not to completely eliminate your hunger. Hunger is a very normal part of human biology, and hunger cues are actually very important. Paying attention to when you are hungry and when you are full is a great healthy habit that can help guide the way to more intuitive eating (with the help of this medication).

✨ Cravings are also a very normal experience, so if the medication does not eliminate cravings completely for you, that’s usually okay. People report more manageable cravings and find the cravings more easily satisfied!

Here are some of our general tips for managing hunger while trying to lose weight:

  • Avoid Skipping Meals or "Dieting" too hard, being too restrictive, or labeling foods as good or bad can make food noise and cravings louder
  • Continue to prioritize protein in larger portions at every meal and snack to keep you full
  • Increase the volume of lower-calorie foods, like fruits and vegetables
  • Add an intentional high protein, high fiber snack into your day (like fat-free Greek yogurt with berries); time this for when you know your food noise is at its worst
  • Add low-calorie items like sugar-free jello/pudding, vegetable soups, skinny popcorn, fruit-based ice pops, broths, and teas to help meals feel more filling
  • Be especially mindful of portion sizes of higher calorie foods like nuts, avocados, cheeses, peanut butter, or salad dressings to help maintain weight loss.

We are called by God to not let anything dominate us. 1 Corinthians 6:12-13 says :
All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food".
We have the power of the Holy Spirit to help us through our cravings.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. [Gal 5:22-23 ESV]

  • Self-control, the fruit of the Spirit, is a key aspect of living a life that is not controlled by negative impulses or external forces.
